I wrote the following article for www.interest.co.nz. I was at an Institute of Directors mentoring lunch some months ago and there was discussion about what a Director should be expecting from the Finance team. The Director discussing it voiced frustration where he needed to interpret the numbers himself.
My view is that if this is happening then the Finance function supporting the Board of Directors is not doing its full job. There is a challenge for all Finance teams balancing the day to day transaction processes and compliance and providing quality decision support. This decision support is no longer and “nice to have” it is an expectation. Refer the following article:
